Video: Lynn Collins on “Sexy and Strong” Dejah Thoris

From the LA Times: Lynn Collins stars in the action film “John Carter” and admits that it was tough for the filmmakers to find a balance for the sexy and strong parts of her character, Princess Dejah.

“In the books she’s like sexiest woman in the universe and we were like, ‘Okay, we gotta make this girl real. We have to make her accessible; we have to make her believable.’ So it was a lot to figure out how much of it was going to be sexy and how much was going to be strong,” Collins told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the premiere of the film. “How much was going to be like beautiful and how much was going to be strong.”

Based on the first novel “Princess of Mars” in the 11-volume book series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, “John Carter” tells the story of a former Confederate captain named John Cater (Taylor Kitsch) who is transported to Mars. Willem Dafoe plays Tars Tarkas, a leader of an alien race and Collins plays Princess Dejah, Carter’s love interest. The book series was, in part, the inspiration for “Star Wars.”

The film also stars Samantha Morton, Thomas Haden Church, Mark Strong, Dominic West and Bryan Cranston.
