Hey…..we just passed 1 Million hits on John Carter Files….Thanks!
Overnight, our hit counter ticked over the 1 Million mark on the John Carter Files so it seems like this is a good moment to stop and thank everyone who’s been coming here and sharing the ride. For those who haven’t been around since the beginning (and that would be almost everyone), JCF was born on December 10, 2011, about 180 days ago, on a Saturday afternoon when I was irritated at all the chatter on the internet saying that the John Carter trailer, which had been released on December 1, “looked like Avatar”. I had blogged about it a few times already on my “regular blog” at MichaelDSellers.com but I knew that the readers over there didn’t want to keep hearing about John Carter every day. So that weekend, while watching football, I went ahead and started The John Carter Files without having much of a plan, other than try and make some noise and help the film along.
I chose the name “The John Carter Files” because I figured eventually after the movie was out there awhile it would slow down and the site would stand as a repository of information — a digital filing cabinet kind of thing — for the books, the movie, and other things relating to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Barsoom, and the John Carter series. As things have turned out, the controversy surrounding the way the film was promoted and released; and the way it was adapted; plus the emergence of the fan movement; have created a situation where it doesn’t feel like it’s going to go into mothballs any time soon. The traffic to the site today is still about 50% of the peak that we hit right around the release date, and is trending upward again as we approach the DVD release, so it seems like we’ll be here for awhile.
Anyway, thanks again for choosing to spend some time here. The fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs and the movie (including those who aren’t necessarily fans of both!) are an interesting bunch and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know many of you, and hear your thoughts. I would welcome your thoughts about what I should be thinking about doing with this in the long run. In the meantime I’ll just keep on keeping on…….with your help and support.
Dotar
PS — and while we’re noticing things like this, I just checked and saw that our two fan trailers are approaching milestones.
Our original Fan Trailer is at 195,000 hits, so 200,000 is in sight.
And our second one, Heritage, which got off to a much slower start than the first one is gradually getting up there too — just crossed 125,000.

Cool movie, I personally like it…
. . . nevermind. I should have read your very next posting!
Congratulations!
You used to have a link to “The Art of Barsoom” where there was about 50+ artists listed and links to their art. What happened to that? It was fantastic! It really showed the inpact of ERB over the years.
thanks

I think this site and the other John Carter sites will be around and very popular for as long as Edgar Rice Burroughs and the Barsoom series of novels are around. The powers that be at Disney have not realised, yet ,what jewels they have in these stories. Support the quest for a sequel to John Carter at johncartertwo.com and on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/backtobarsoom/
Dotar Sojat…thank you for all your perseverance and hard work bringing John Carter Files to us…you are the driving force behind all of us who treasure these books and John Carter, the movie as well…your dedication is so appreciated…The VISION continues…BARSOOM…..
It is very cool to see how your endeavor has really taken off! I am very glad to have the opportunity to become a part of the ERB/John Carter community, it is fantastic to see how it has grown and how passionate everyone is. Keep up the great work!!!
Michael,
I have been following you since the very beginning as I searched for more info on the movie daily. You have been a driving force in keeping John Carter in the news and I thank you for hor hard but much appreciated work. More good news, John Carter is the most pirated movie for the last two weeks. Why is that good news? Well, most movies that are “BOMBS” do not get any attention after their theatrical runs but John Carter is. This can only mean that people are watching it because they liked it and wanted to see it again, or they have heard about it and wanted to check it out. I hoping that the DVD release goes over well… Crossing my fingers… The link below takes you to the article on the pirated John Carter views.

Well, thanks to you, Michael. Your articles are the reason why it is so great a place to read on a daily basis. Keep on the good work for the longest run!!
Oops, Khanada, my bad. I was going to say “awesome” and then changed it to what I just posted. Didn’t see yours before. Sorry!
Kaor, Dotar Sojat. The word “awesome” is much overused to day, so I’ll just go with EXCEPTIONAL. It’s hard to overstate how careful, patient, diligent, fair, informative, thoughtful, and articulate you and this site have consistently been. The John Carter Files is an admirable, ongoing accomplishment. Thank you!
Oh Yea!! That’s awesome!!! Such a fantastic site and amazing trailers!! Woo Hoola!!! 😀
