New Star Wars – The Force Awakens Trailer Logs 21 Million Views in First 24 Hours (Updates)

Other Stuff

(I started this post 15 minutes after the trailer debuted….scroll down to see how fast it’s risen to 21 Million views.)

The Star Wars — The Force Awakens trailer was debuted about fifteen minutes ago on Monday Night Football.  View it on Youtube and see what the number of views are. As of this posting, it’s at 221,000.  That’s in a matter of minutes.  The IMDB Message boards are going crazy as well.  There are ten pages of comments just in the last hour.  For context — Tarzan has four pages total over the entire life of the film.  Am I jealous?  You could definitely say that.  But I’m trying to learn to love this movie too.  I’ve never completely warmed to Star Wars, but I will try.

One more thought — remember when Bob Iger was busy acquiring Star Wars and junking John Carter? Well, here’s why. The buzz is just crazy.

UPDATE 1: It’s now “the morning after” — approximately 12 hours after the trailer was posted. Last night when I first posted on this, it had 221,000 views. This morning, the figure is 10,116,000. By contrast and I say this with a heavy heart … the official John Carter trailer, three years later, is at 3.3M. Sigh.

Here’s a screenshot showing the current number of views as of 10/20/2015 at 8am Pacific. Congrats to everyone involved with this movie. It will be huge.

UPDATE 2: It’s now 24 hours later and the count is 21 million views. Amazing.

  • I don’t get the enthusiasm right now, and I’m a huge fan of the original trilogy. This trailer plays “fan service” by featuring Star Wars hardware, but hardly any character moment. I have absolutely no sense of the story, and no clue why I should care about any of the new characters. What would be cardinal sins for any other movie (taken purely at random: John Carter, for example?) is OK just because it’s Star Wars. I’m not a fan of the prequel trilogy at all, but the trailers were way more exciting to me.
