Here we go — getting the hang of the video updates.
Video Update 4 — Michael Hatt
Michael is the host of this year’s Dum Dum, and is the author of Tarzan Slept Here. We are in Coldwater Michigan, where, ofr over two decades, “small town” of Coldwater provided a “big city” getaway for Edgar Rice Burroughs. Michael’s book Tarzan Slept Here details the author’s time spent in Coldwater, the summer home to his wife’s family, the Hulberts. A pair of Burroughs’ well-known works were penned in Coldwater: “Beyond Thirty” was imagined at Sunnyside Farm; and the fourth chapter of “Jungle Tales of Tarzan” was written while overlooking Morrison Lake.
This 1854 house belong to the Hulbert family. It was a summerhouse and Edgar Rice Burroughs started writing “Beyond 30” in it.
Current resident bought the house in 1999. After many renovations, one of the original feature that remains is this spider web window.
ERB bought this cottage in 1918 and sold it in 1924 for $500
At Camp Randolph, where ERB stood.
