  • John carter of mars was easily the best movie of the year it was released. However, it appealed to fans of Burroughs works, and required the viewer toreally follow the story line more closely or to already know the basic plot. This was partly (in my view) what made the early 20th century scifi and fantastic fiction appealing to so many readers. The characters and settings were so ‘grand’ that they were effectively impossible to portray until effects technology advanced to the current state. If i were stuck on a space station and could only have one ‘vid’, it is a no brainer: John Carter. If i were told i could also have Avatar, I would stick with John Carter–no need for a ‘B’-rated when you already have a best of genre.
